Retirement savings calculator
Project what your retirement savings could grow to and the income it might support.
A 4% withdrawal would be about $2,511 a month before taxes ($1,197 in today’s dollars).
How it works
Each month your balance earns the annual return divided by 12, then your contribution is added. We also convert the result into today’s dollars using your inflation assumption. The income estimate applies the commonly cited 4% withdrawal guideline.
Returns are not guaranteed and can be negative. This is an illustration, not a forecast, and it ignores taxes, fees, and changes in contributions.
Example
With the sample inputs shown above (Current retirement savings ($) = 25000; Monthly contribution, including employer match ($) = 600; Expected annual return (%) = 6; Years until retirement = 30; Expected inflation (%) = 2.5), the calculator returns: Balance at retirement: $753,273 (In 30 years); In today’s dollars: $359,118; You contribute: $241,000 (Growth $512,273).
Things to know
Include your employer match in the monthly contribution. Use a conservative return and look at the result in today’s dollars. The 4% estimate is a common planning guideline, not a guarantee.
