Savings rate calculator
Find the percentage of your take-home pay that you save and what it would take to reach 20%.
How it works
Savings rate equals the amount you save each month divided by your take-home income. Include savings, investments, and retirement contributions you make from your pay.
The 20% target comes from the 50/30/20 guideline. Any steady rate that rises over time is a good start.
Example
With the sample inputs shown above (Monthly take-home income ($) = 4500; Saved per month ($) = 450), the calculator returns: Savings rate: 10.0% (Below 20%); Saved per year: $5,400; To reach 20%: $450 (More per month).
Things to know
Count money you set aside from your pay for savings, investing, and retirement. A rate below 20% is not a failure. Start where you are and raise it by a point or two each time your income increases.
